This is no ordinary fruit roll up! Of course it is fruity but I have added a few extra ingredients to give this fruit roll up a makeover worth a million bucks! I added protein powder to balance that natural sugar and I give this recipe a high five!
In a pinch, I have found a few brands from the health food market I like but most of those roll up ingredients are enough to make me want to throw up! Sorry not a pretty phrase, but seriously, how they ruin a simple recipe like fruit roll ups by adding hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors and flavors bewilders me and is ridiculous {with a hand on my hip}.
I also had fun creating flavors with my daughter, plus you only need a few ingredients to have fun in the kitchen! I made trays of these and got my monies worth that is for sure! Even the crispy ones that I cooked too long were enjoyed!

- Almond Butter & Banana

- Puree fruit first and add other ingredients in a Vita mix or food processor.
- Spread mixture on several dehydrator trays with paraflexx sheet.
- Follow directions for dehydrator (usually about 8 hour at 135 degrees).
- For Baking: Spread ingredients on a piece of wax paper about ⅛ inch thick on a cookie sheet.
- Bake at 170-200 degrees for up to 2 hours. The trick to knowing when it is done is to check it for a slight stickiness.
- If you cook them too long they will be a crispy treat rather than a fruit roll up but still delicious!
When adding protein powder use one that is clean and fits your dietary needs. I used pea protein that had stevia added already and that helped bring out the tart cherries sweetness. Have fun adding some super foods like goji powder, chia seeds or even add shredded coconut as you puree fruit! Taste as you go along and add some yum! Please use organic when you can.
