This was a huge mistake and one that I am so glad I did, because we have one of my favorite treats since Spoonful of Health’s inception! It sounds funny referring to this treat as a recipe because it only has four simple ingredients!
So you may be wondering how this was a mistake……well let me tell you what I did or didn’t do. I was in a groggy state of mind one morning and went to make my smoothie but forgot to add the coconut milk to the frozen banana and almond butter!
I was wide awake when my beloved Vita mix made an awful cry of swirling emptiness. I was in a panic that she may have just outdone herself after all these years we have been together! Happy to report she whirls like a jet engine again, as long as I fill her up right!!
This is one desert you won’t have to shake your bonbon with exercise. You can have seconds, thirds or as many as you like for that matter because it is so healthy & decadent!!

Almond Chocolate Bonbons {dairy, refined sugar and gluten free}
Author: Dawn Rofrano with Spoonful of Health
- 2 frozen bananas
- ¼ cup almond butter
- 1 tsp almond extract
- ¼ cup of chocolate chips
- *nut free option below
- Cut 2 frozen bananas in chunks.
- Add into a strong blender like the Vitamix or a food processor with almond butter.
- Add extract and pulse or blend. You may have to stop to stir and restart.
- Place a piece of wax paper on a cookie sheet.
- With a small melon scooper or spoon place drops of the mixture onto wax paper.
- Place cookie sheet in the freezer for 30 minutes or longer till set.
- Melt chocolate and drizzle over bonbons after they have set in freezer.
- Bonbons will be ready to eat now but freezing them up to an hour or longer is best.
For a nut free option use sun butter and vanilla extract. The nature of this desert melts easily and will do best if kept in the freezer until ready to serve. We like to use Lily's chocolate chips because they are sweetened with stevia! No refined sugar here! This soft serve ice cream texture is amazing right out of a bowl with the chips sprinkled on top too.

Hi Terri! I just made another batch and put them in the freezer for that unexpected sweet craving…. Well a certain someone (with little hands) beat me to them!
