When I take patients on grocery shopping tours they usually are amazed at the many alternative sugar choices, not to mention they are thrilled they can actually have a sweet treat made from one of the healthier sugars {depending on individual needs}.
This video introduces you to many options and I share with you my top 4 favorite alternative sugars! Make this one simple change in your diet and you will notice the positive benefits of better sleep, focus, less mood swings, fewer crashes or hyperglycemia reactions, more energy, less cravings, lower triglycerides, a healthier weight, and even weight loss to name a few.
I would like to mention any artificial sweeteners should be avoided as they are toxic and have serious repercussions. We have seen patients at the Natural Medicine Clinic with severe symptoms; everything from depression to migraines caused by this.
I did not discuss Agave, which could have a whole post dedicated to it’s deceiving self. It is not a healthy choice even though some studies consider it low on the glycemic scale, however, it is hard for the liver to break down and more processed than the food industry has led us to believe.
Even with these alternative sugars we should consider using moderation. Too much of a good thing is not a good thing anymore. The good Doc suggests keeping your sugar intake under 25 grams per day {including any fruit sugars} for optimal health.

Hi Dawn, my husband loves his sweet ice tea! What do you recommend using instead of white sugar?? Love, love your website – Thanks! MM
Hi Mandy, I am in love with iced Chai Tea these days and I use a dash of stevia. They do have packets at the store for convenience. I know many people carry them. You could use coconut or date sugar but I find they mix better in hot tea. Stevia is a great option because it does not effect blood sugar like traditional sugar. Read your labels to make sure it is the whole stevia leaf and does not have other added ingredients as they can get sneaky and add unnecessary toxic stuff. Thanks for stopping by!
